Almost Rolling Over

I don’t know what the “normal” age is for rolling over, but Elisha’s getting closer ad closer every time I change his diaper.

Actually, that’s only true when I’m doing it at the changing table. The fish tank is just above his head, and in his persistent efforts to see the little swimmers he contorts himself quite creatively. I have to work fast to get him out and back in before he pulls onto his side (quicker every time).

I wonder if this means I’ll develop a new diapering technique…

Elisha’s first haircut

I just finished cutting Elisha’s long hair. All the brown came off and we now have a second little blondie.

Very different look at first. I hope we’ll hve pictures up this week (we’re a few months behind, I know). I really want to highlight the change ;o)

“In the meantime…” Elisha

(pre-timed again)

Well, with all the stuff about Gma I’ve not had time to post what’s been happing at home. Starting with the youngest (I’ve been with him the most lately):

  • Elisha
    • is smiling, laughing and “talking” now
    • Has an incredible attention span: He spent 15 or 20 minutes watching me rotate a partially-eaten apple in his line of sight at the hospital yesterday. Gma was napping, I was snacking. I assume it was the “dramatic” shift from red to white. The first time it happened he just kicked like crazy (he was lying on his back). I was surprised I had the attention span for it, but since I got to watch him, I had something much more fascinating to watch than an apple core. It’s been years since I sat and studied one of my kids that long…
    • His sleeping is amazing. He does an average of 8-hours/night (I once woke him after 11 because we had to be somewhere), and two or three naps in the day, ranging from 2-6 hours.
    • I am still “actively” putting him to sleep most of the time, holding his arms still and walking or “jiggling” him. That will have to change before long (He was 13 lbs, 4oz. on the hospital scale last Friday), but he’s shown some potential for falling asleep on his own too, when he’s tired, and if I catch the timing right…
    • Other things that have changed since he was new:
      • I already mentioned the sleeping– he would be awake frequently and frantically (not just for growth-spurts).
      • He’s mellowed (Praise God) so he can still stay calm or nurse when the sisters cyclone through.
      • He’s stopped spitting-up (most of the time) so I’m guessing this is when I got the impression the girls didn’t do it; they out-grew it.
      • He will sit in his play chair and enjoy the dangly rattles while I write (like right now).
      • And he nurses great. We were concerned for a while he wasn’t getting enough because of the thrush fiasco, but when we asked the Dr. about it she looked at the growth-chart and said we had nothing to worry about. He was already in the 80th percentile for his age. (My theory about him following Melody’s growth pattern seems to be confirmed). And even how people constantly overestimate his age.
    • He still fits in his “bassinet,” but we’re not sure how much longer.
    • He is a delight, and loves to converse.

(More , on the girls, when I have time later.)

Friday’s well-child check-ups

Our kids apparently have skin issues. We are going to have to figure out some routine to get their ears (especially) greased regularly, to prevent cracks and possible infection.

*sigh*

This responsible-grown-up gig gets old sometimes.

And you’ll be able to see the next time we update our pix that Melody had a bad run-in Thursday morning with something little that bites. It got her right over her left eyebrow, and sometime after midnight it stopped responding to the Benedryl and her eye swelled shut.

It didn’t open again until Friday night. Continue reading

8+ hours!

Okay, sorry if you’re tired of getting updates on the Boy’s sleeping, but this was very exciting for us. Wednesday night the girls were up more frequently than Elisha was. I finally woke him (he’d been squeaking and sucking toward his hand for some time) and tried to get him to eat, but since there was nothing “ready” for him, he didn’t act all that interested. Continue reading

He did it again!

Another solid night last night!

After days of nursing for a growth-spurt (read: very frequently), Elisha zonked hard last night and (by our sleepy estimate) pulled-off 6-hours in a stretch. He also did more than three hours together for his morning nap. That combined with the girls’ morning movie made me feel very productive. Continue reading

Sleeping “through the night.”

Elisha slept more than six hours together last night! He didn’t wake up this morning until 4:30 (I laid him down before 10p.m.). He took some coaxing to get back to sleep, but then he slept again until 9:30.

Nearly 12 hours together. I could get used to that….

Elisha’s “1–month” appointment

He’s 6-weeks old, but setting up this appt taught/reminded me of something else: Non-emergency appts have to be set-up way ahead to get the dr.(s) I want. Seems there are other people as well who find them preferable.

Our “Arg!” moment came at the end of the appointment. Elisha’s still been struggling with the thrush (never totally gone) for weeks, and I’ve been striving to reach the four (count-em, four) doses a day with his yeast med. Today I asked about the “purple-stuff” I was told about by two different people. Continue reading

Yesterday I was (basically) scolded by a nurse for quitting Elisha’s thrush-med regimen so soon, and then got another hand-slap for quitting even though I’d been on antibiotics (which are notorious for encouraging yeast growth). And then I was told the med record said we were supposed to come back in 3-4 days if the thrush hadn’t improved. Continue reading
