Friday’s well-child check-ups

Our kids apparently have skin issues. We are going to have to figure out some routine to get their ears (especially) greased regularly, to prevent cracks and possible infection.

*sigh*

This responsible-grown-up gig gets old sometimes.

And you’ll be able to see the next time we update our pix that Melody had a bad run-in Thursday morning with something little that bites. It got her right over her left eyebrow, and sometime after midnight it stopped responding to the Benedryl and her eye swelled shut.

It didn’t open again until Friday night.

The swelling was pretty impressive when we were at the clinic; the skin was so tight and puffy it looked shiny. Dr. Gannett said she suspected infection and wanted to start Antibiotics, since it wasn’t responding, but wrote a prescription also for a different (stronger) antihistamine. She was able to get us some sample so we didn’t have to go to the store, and we started her on that as soon as we got home.

I was reluctant to fill the A/B Rx because the only sign the Dr. was prescribing on was the swelling. Melody had no other signs: no fever, no complaining of pain, no mellowing or changed personality. Based on the results we’ve been seeing since then I think I made the right call.

Her eye is opening more as time goes on, and she continues to be her cheerful, bouncy self.

Elisha got his 2-month check at the same time, and 7 vaccinations in 3 shots. He was sacked for most of the rest of the day. We’re still dosing him w/ the baby Tylenol they gave us at the clinic. (I like to dose the kids for at least a day after their shots; I know mine never stopped hurting sooner.)
