Ask a simple question…

The children are “ice skating” to their self-created music in the nook normally used as the dining area.
Jay is filling out some huge survey, occasionally trying to engage me by asking questions.
I am trying to cruise through my reconceptualized novel despite the activity, and Jay reads from the survey:
“Do you have trouble concentrating or making [...]

Results of the 3 week Allergy test.

Well, I learned more about me than the kids, but what I learned about me explains why I wouldn’t have noticed it in them.
What we will clear out of our house, and not buy any more:
Oatmeal.
Sort of a bummer and requiring a level of awareness I haven’t needed before, but of all the “common” allergies [...]

Opening 2010. Lots going on.

Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written here.
A lot’s been going on, but I’ve waited because none of it “stable” enough for me to write about it; to set in stone as “reality.”
But now I figure if I wait till it’s all at that level I might not remember enough to record a bunch [...]

My First Break

In two weeks… And I hope it’s my last for a long time.
Today, for the first time in two weeks, I didn’t walk upon waking.
Yes, I felt less-tired tired, but not in a restful way.  I felt agitated, and wondered (not for the first time in this two weeks) if the reason I’ve frequently been [...]

7 Quick Takes

Again, from Jen’s idea.
~ ~ 1 ~ ~
Jay’s talking about wanting a pellet-burning stove.  I’m asking where it will go.
I’m asking for a double bed with drawers.  It will take up less room (in our little room) than the queen-sized bed (we never use all that space anyway), and let us get rid of at [...]

I looked into heaven…

I got a nap this morning, and as I did my children were bathed and dressed and fed.
God’s design (that whole two-parent thing) *so* makes the most sense.
Longer post later.   Not much later, but much longer.
As in, This-is-your-warning-don’t-complain-later-I-didn’t-warn-you longer.

Auditioning

I went and auditioned last night for a play I know next to nothing about.
It felt a bit like an ethical quandary, truly:
Is showing up like an eBay bid, where if you “win” (are selected) you are bound to follow through and roll with whatever’s given you?
I resist being bound, but understand the thinking that [...]

Controlled Vocabulary

I am working on a short fairy tale to submit for publication (sort of a breather from the novel, you might say).
Naturally the language is how I would tell it.
So I’ve begun to go through it with my “Children’s Writer’s Word Book” checking the words I guess to be more challenging than the others.
I was [...]

Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow!

Happy New Year!
And I just *had* to share my delight.
In October I attended a writer’s workshop where I recieved back my novel’s first-chapter that had be reviewed and commented on by one of the editors present.  For almost three months now I’ve thought my folder from there– holding both the marked-up manuscript and my skip-the-slush-pile [...]

I’ve Started Lessons again

I signed up for the intermediate guitar class, and got the run-down tonight.
It looks to be just what I need (Highly structured and purposeful) goes where I want to go, and (God. help. me.) at breakneck speed.
I’m hoping I can keep up, because if I can I will learn a bunch of stuff I’ve wanted [...]
